We start volunteering at Winnipeg Harvest on our 2nd week here in Winnipeg. My parents joined first, then they invited us to volunteer for the next Saturday, so we start to volunteer every other Saturdays. We volunteer sorting breads, creating boxes, cleaning and sorting goods. We work from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

PART 1: WHAT IS "PAY IT FORWARD"?

Paying it forward is a benefit that involve doing something good for someone in response to a good deed done on your behalf or a gift you receive. When you pay it forward it doesn't have to be something extraordinary or elegant. It is something you are cable of doing it. Also when paying it forward, however, you don't repay it to the person who did something nice to you. Instead you do something nice to someone else, like neighbors, families, friends, etc. The movie pay it forward, a boy named Trevor was given an opportunity to change the world  and put it into actions. He decides that if he can do three good deeds to someone. This assignment was given us student a chance to make a difference like Trevor.

                                                                                                            

PART 2: WHAT WAS YOUR PAY IT FORWARD ACT OF KINDNESS?

My pay it forward act of kindness is only one action: stick a notes with candy canes in front of my neighbor's door.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS ACTIVITY?

I choose this activity because it's something that I can really do well and something that I'am capable of doing it. By doing this activity I discovered that even though your neighbors don't see what is your doing, you can feel the greatness inside that your actually doing this to them to make them happy.    

WHO DID YOU HELP?

I had mostly helped my neighbors. I helped them by making them happy. I stick a notes in front of my neighbors door. I did that because, even though their tired from work they will feel great.

WHAT DID YOU DO?

On the first day, me and my family went to Super Store to buy candy canes and also groceries, after that I made notes for my neighbors. On the second day I stick every notes and candy canes together and put it in a bag, after that I went out side and just stick the notes to my neighbors door.

WHEN DID YOU DO YOUR ACT OF KINDNESS?

I started my act of kindness on December 28 and December 29, 2013.

                                                                                                            

PART 3: HOW DID YOUR ACT OF KINDNESS GO?

Of course it wasn't easy because it was cold outside. I thought making a difference was easy to do and I didn't think that I'am going to achieve my assignment. I know I work hard but when you feel the hardness that you go through to make changes in the world you'll forget that hardness.

WHAT HAPPENED?

I just did it on my own because my parents have work and my sister have her own business, so I need to help my self, if not no one will help me. I just take a photo of one note in my neighbors door. So I was grateful that I actually finish my assignment without help form others.
HOW DID YOU FEEL?

I feel great because I actually make some changes in the world, even though I just did a little bit of help to make them great. Also happy because I finish this assignment.

HOW DID THE PERSON OR PEOPLE REACT?

I actually don't know, I would guess they will react unthinkable where the notes came from and also I guess thankful.

DID YOU ASK THE PERSON OR PEOPLE TO "PAY IT FORWARD"?

Actually no, because the point of this assignment is you are willing to help other people without  asking them what you actually need to do to help them or make their day good, just do what is best to make a differnce.

IF YOU DID NOT ASK THE PERSON TO "PAY IT FORWARD", HOW COME?

My first reason, why I didn't ask the person to pay it forward, it's because I'm shy and sometimes the people were not at their home so I just did it without asking them.

                                                                                                            

PART 4: WHY IS THE IDEA OF "PAY IT FORWARD" IMPORTANT?

The idea of pay it forward is important because it's something that will inspired people of doing good or nice things to other people. I think pay it forward is important because we can learn something from it like how to help other people without thinking that "Am I going to help them, or not" and also it's important because you are making a difference, inspiring other people and and you are helping to change the world.

HAS YOUR ACT OF KINDNESS MADE A DIFFERENCE?

I think my act of kindness made a difference, even though you only did small thing to them. It doesn't matter though, how big or small you did to make a difference.

Pay It Forward 2014

Part I | What is Pay It Forward?
 

Pay It Forward is any act of kindness. You would have to do 3 acts of kindness for three different people. Your act would be because you think they your need help or because you just wanted to a random act of kindness. For example, a bus driver sees a homeless man out in the cold with no shoes. The bus driver then decides to give that man his shoes. That is a true story. It is also a random act of kindness. You don't have to do something that big but you can do something. Something that will make that person want to do something nice 3 other people. In the movie, Pay It Forward, a boy named Trevor helps 3 people who he thinks needs his help, one of them being another boy from being bullied. Then the boy with have to help 3 other people, and then those people would have to help 3 other people and then it just spreads out. 

Part II | What did I do for Pay It Forward?

For Pay It Forward I decided to do something simple. I gave candy canes to some of my neighbours on Christmas eve. I tied little notes with "Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!" written on them, on the candy canes. On the back I wrote "Remember to pay it forward!". I chose to do this because it was near Christmas and New Year. Also it was something I could do. I helped my neighbours by making their Christmas just bit more special. I gave them candy canes with my mom on Christmas.

Part III | How did my act of kindness go?

I don't know what happened, after I gave the candy canes, I went to a Christmas party with my family and gave some candy canes to my little cousins. My cousins liked the candy canes but I don't know about my neighbours. I hope they liked it. I felt pretty happy, It felt good when I walked to every house with my mom and put candy canes in the mailboxes and on doors. I liked seeing my cousins smile when they ate the candy canes. I forgot to take pictures of them though. I wrote "Remember to pay it forward!" on the back of the notes. I wasn't expecting my little cousins to do anything. But I expected my neighbours to do something. I don't know hoe they reacted but I hope they'll try.

Part IIII | What is the idea of Pay It Forward?

The idea of Pay It Forward is to do something nice for someone else and make on impact on their lives. It can be a big impact or a small impact, it just has to be something nice enough so that they get inspired to do something nice for someone else, and cycle goes on.

I think my act of kindness made a small difference in some person's Christmas somehow, just by making it a bit more cheery. I think I could've made a bigger difference by donating money to a charity, volunteering, or even shoveling but sometimes it's the little things that matter.





















 

Allison Concepcion's Pay it Forward

Part I

 

                           Pay it forward is any act of kindness, for this act of kindness you try to help out 3 people who you think need help or just anything you think would be kind to do for them. EX: a homeless person who needs food or you can help an elder person by carrying their heavy groceries. Now that you've influenced the person to pay it forward now, they can pay it forward to 3 more people and it spreads out like crazy. In the movie Trevor helps 3 people who he thinks need help. An example would be when Trevor tried to help the homeless man by feeding him and taking care of him. Now that Trevor paid it forward to those 3 people, the 3 people pay it forward to 3 more people and the acts of kindness spreads out.

 

Part II

 

                       My Friends and I paid it forward by shoveling peoples walkway and the sidewalk. Doing so we raised $40.00 for shoveling our neighbor's walkway. Of course we couldn't take the money for our selves so we decided to donate it to the Philippine typhoon relief. We made our neighbors cards telling them that we couldn't accept the money so we gave it to the Philippine typhoon relief and left them candy canes in their mail box.

We also gave out candy canes with little cards telling them about pay it forward and brightening up their day, we designed kitchen ware items and gave them to our neighbors, and we also gave teachers treats and cards saying how nice they've been and for taking care of us.

                             

                                        We chose this activity to do because we were all capable of doing it, no one was left out and not one person couldn't do the activity just because they don't think they can do it. We are all capable of doing acts of kindness and helping each other out. This activity was fair for all of us we did everything together and no one got to do more or less. This showed us that working together as a team all of us can get it done.

 

                                We helped our neighbors by shoveling their walkway and by shoveling the sidewalk so it's easier for them to walk. During this activity we raised $40.00 for shoveling our neighbors walkway. I remember that one of our neighbors said that she told us that she was a family therapist and she has seen the movie Pay it forward and loved it. She paid it forward to us by giving us the $20.00 but of course we couldn't accept the $40.00 we raise so we decided to donate it to the Philippine Typhoon Relief. We left them cards and some candy canes saying that we appreciated the money they gave us but couldn't accept it so we donated it. We didn't know that we would receive $40.00 for shoveling their walkway but it made us really happy. We've noticed that even one little act of kindness can brighten up someone's day which happened to us. That day we were so happy just by helping people in the neighborhood it was very fun.

 

               We did our act of kind on December 29th and December 30th 2013.

 Part III

 



I think our act of kindness was well done and I'm not saying that it's perfect but still it was a pretty fun experience. What happened was that we didn't have a chance to shovel all of our neighbor's walkway because it was very cold outside but we successfully completed two walkways and in return we raised $40.00. The kitchenware we designed didn't go as planned because the design kept rubbing off and as much as we tried to prevent the design from rubbing off it wouldn't work. Speaking of the kitchenware we tried calling the Betelstadur Housing Co-op ( an elderly home) on 1061 Sargent avenue to notify them that we were going to drop by and give them the kitchenware. Sadly they didn't want to take chances so they needed information about what we were doing, of course we didn't know Mrs. Wilson's cellphone number or Mr.Harbeck's number so we couldn't give them the kitchenware items. Another problem we faced when we were doing our act of kindness was when we couldn't make enough  heart shaped candy canes in time before Pam or Ceci left because they had to leave early so we had to make less heart shaped candy canes than we wanted to.

 

When I first thought about all these activities that we were going to do I said to my friends that they were crazy. Doing all of these activities in less than 3 days to do everything but when we began to do it, I thought it'd be hard to accomplish but it was quite easy. I was surprised of how we managed to do everything so simply especially when we had some difficulties since we worked together as a group that's why it was so simple. Ever since then, I felt like I was a better person just because these small acts of kindness. Seeing the neighbors smiles on their face told us that we have become great people for better or for worse.

 

The people that we helped were very happy like we made their day by shoveling their walkway. They were freezing because they had their doors wide open talking to us and giving us their money. For the rest of the day we didn't get much of a reaction because we decided to give notes and shovel their walkway without giving ourselves attention. Some people were probably out of their house or just sleeping but they main thing was to pay it forward not to bring attention to our selves and showing off.

 

While we were shoveling our neighbors walkway, they gave us money for helping them but of course we weren't doing it for money we were just simply paying it forward. So we told the kind lady that we didn't do it for money we were just paying it forward. She responded by saying that she seen the movie before and  she loved it. She also told us that she was a family therapist helping families sort out their problems and I think that's how she pays it forward by helping one another. Since we didn't take the money we decided to donate it to the Philippine Typhoon Relief and we told our neighbors that we did so and that we appreciated them giving us the money.

 

 

Part IIII

 

The idea of paying it forward was important because it can save peoples life or change the way they've lived. It's basically doing even little acts of kindness could be noticed and be spread on and on and on  until everyone in the world has done something to help someone or change something. Doing great little things can mean so much to a person.

 

 

I hope that our act of kindness opened up their eyes and made them very thankful because there is no other better feeling than helping someone who was in pain, or who had difficulties and many more. Lotte's Pay It Forward

What is my Pay it Forward?

My pay it forward is I am going to help the less fortunate children. I will gather my old but beautiful clothing, toys and shoes because I'm planning to donate them to Salvation Army and half of it, I will put in the donation box at Banning Street. I'm going to do all of those before New Year's Day.

When I'm doing my Pay it Forward, it was a very cold day. I asked my mother to come with me because I cannot carry my heavy donations. I feel tired but happy knowing that I was able to help other children by giving them my old but beautiful stuff. I put my half belonging at the donation box and other half at Salvation Army. Salvation Army staff offer me a discount coupon but I refused to accept it. They were very grateful and smiled at me.

I did not ask the person to Pay it Forward, because I feel that they will do it on their own will.

Part 1 

What is pay it forward?

 Paying it forward is a way to thank our society by helping other people, we can do some simple things that can help others or make their days. the boy named Trevor in the movie <pay it forward>, he came up with the idea of paying it forward, it starts with one person to help 3 three other people to do something big , and these 3 people have to help 3 other people, and more...it spreads out, more people will involve to this activity, you can make a huge difference to the world just by doing something kind to others. These actions does not have to be huge, but just do something that can make them feel happy and warmth.

Part 2

What was your pay it forward act of kindness?

Our pay it forward act of kindness was to shovel the sidewalk of the street and walkway for our  neighbors; designing kitchenware items for our neighborhoods; giving out treats to teachers, putting candy canes (made in heart shape) with a small messages into people’s mail boxes and also we had also given a box of candy canes with a letter that has information of pay it forward to a day care.

Why did you choose this activity?

We choose these activities because its something that are helpful to them, and can make them happy. Shoveling the street snow, and neighborhoods walkway were very helpful to them. Because its hard to walk on thick cold snow, also it wastes a lot of time just to shovel a small area of snow, we did it for them so, they don’t have to come out to this very cold weather and shovel when they should have a rest or have a nice warm dinner with their family. We designed kitchenware items because, kitchenware items are useful to family, every family needs kitchenware items efforts that were putted in the designing shows how much we care about them, I am sure that you can feel the warmth when you look at it. We had given treats to teachers because we really want to thank them, they had helped us a lot, not only knowledge for school also knowledge for life. We dropped off candy canes with a small messages and information of pay it forward into peoples mail boxes, the main point of this activity was making their day by a candy cane and a small message, also we want them to know and understand what are we doing and what is pay it forward, so they can spread the information of pay it forward to other people or they can get started on pay it forward. The last thing that we did was giving a box of candy canes with a letter to the day care because, we wanted to let the teachers know what are we doing so they can teach kids about pay it forward, so in their heads, they have some ideas of pay it forward, candy canes also made them feel happy!

Part 3

How did your act of kindness go?

Our act of kindness was not going like what we had planned, a lot of thing are not as easy as we thought of, but we still tried our best to do it. Things that we really can’t do it such as, giving kitchenware items to the elderly home, we could not do it because they have to confirm with our teacher, but we don’t have our teachers’s number, so we decided to give these kitchenware items to our neighborhoods. Also it was hard for us to shovel snow in a very cold day for more than 2 hours. Even though our actions were not easy but when we see their smile, everything worth it .

What happened?(how did the person or people react? Did you ask them about pay it forward...)

Our group decided to go to one of our member’s house (BABADILLA) to work on our project. On the first day, we went to Walmart to buy all the materials that we need, then got back to Joanna’s house to get our shovels and get ready to shovel the sidewalk and neighborhoods’s snow. We planned two people to shovel and two people to take pictures and videos (rotated). When we were shoveling the first neighborhoods houses, a woman came out ans she was very appreciated what we did, she said “thank you” so many times, and gave us 20 dollars, we told her that we are doing this for “pay it forward” we don’t want to receive her money, when she heard we said we were doing this for paying it forward, her reaction was very surprised, she told us that she loves the movie pay it forward, but she wants us to receive the money so she has a chance to pay it forward. And after we received more money, we decided to donate these money to the Philippine Typhoon Relief. After we shoveled snow, we started to work on writing cards, designing kitchenware items, rapping gifts, and editing, it took us a lot of times to do it, after we go out again and dropped off candy canes, kitchenware items to people’s houses and mail boxes. 

How did you feel...? What did you learn?

I felt very satisfied and happy after I helped people and made them smile. Even though I always knew that its a good thing to help other people but I don’t experience it a lot, I didn’t really understand the main of helping, after I did this project, i will never ever forget the moment when people had a big smile on their face when they received our help, it was so beautiful, their smile lift up the whole world, at that moment you feel like the sun is shining on you, you can feel the heat even though you are standing in a temperature of -40co, you feel like you are the happiest person in the world! While working on this project I had learned how teamwork is very important because, if we don’t work as a team, we don’t cooperate each other, we would have a lot of disagreements, we wouldn’t be able to finish this project.

Why is the idea pay it forward important ?

Pay it forward is important because it makes people become more selfless from selfish, more positive from negative and it lets you experience the fun of helping others. while we were doing these act of kindness, we learned to be more selfless, we learned to think about other people, our community and the whole world. We work harder and have a big smile rather than complaining. Also we had fun while helping others.

Did your act of kindness make a difference?

I think our act of kindness did make a difference, because I could see people were touched by our action, this little “touched” might not make a big difference but it will spreads out, it will grow bigger and bigger, stronger and stronger.

Allyson's pay it forward

Pay it forward.

Pay it forward is quite simple. It means to help someone without expecting anything in return. For my pay it forward, I shovelled my neighbour's walk. I chose to do this because, I want to help other people  even though this is just a simple thing. I was outside because, I shovelled my father's driveway and our front yard. Then I decide to do my pay it forward at that moment which is I shovelled my neighbour's walk. I'm so happy and I enjoy it even though it's pretty cold outside.

PART 1

 

           What is Pay it Forward? Paying it forward is an action that basically spreads out like wildfire. It is started by one simply act of kindness, and after just say, pay it forward. In the movie "Pay it Forward" Trevor, decided to contribute to helping people's lives by doing a kind act for three people. These three people would pay it forward, and then next thing you know, you got thousands of people doing it too!

 

 

PART 2

 



 

            Our Pay it Forward act of kindness was:

• Shovelling sidewalk, and some parts of our neighbour's walk (money raised goes to Typhoon Haiyan)
• Giving out candy canes shaped as a heart with a small message such as "Have a Great Day!" or "You're awesome!", and a small sentence explaining pay it forward
• Small Gifts for teachers to show that we care about their hard work with our education
• Kitchenware such as mugs and cups that we designed, given to the neighbours who had given us money
• A box of candy canes for the daycare beside the school

      We chose this activity because we thought that all these activities were very simple and we thought that we should do many simple activities rather than doing one complex idea. We chose to shovel our neighbours' walk and also the sidewalk so they would save time and see how much we wanted to help. We are younger, and we can do it, and hopefully, we also want someone to do this to us when we are older and uncapable. We chose to give out candy canes shaped as a heart with a small message to brighten up their day. A very simple yet big message. When they get home from doing anything, hopefully, they'll feel better and turn a bad day into a good day, also, they'll wonder about Pay it Forward. We designed mugs, cups, etc. to give to the neighbours who had given us money although we had rejected.  We chose to do this because we wanted them to know that we did the shovelling for not just the money, but to make a difference. We gave the box of candy canes to the daycare near our school so that the children could have a little treat, and also, so show that we support them and the hardwork put into taking care of all the children.

        We helped the community by shovelling the sidewalk, and we also helped the neighbourhood with the candy canes given out.  Another group we had encouraged were our teachers, giving a card and a little treat to show that we appreciate their hard work. We also helped the neighbours by sending a basket with mugs and cups we had designed. We also supported the daycare beside the school and the victims of Typhoon Haiyan by donating $40.

          We did our act of kindess or our Pay it Forward activity during the winter break we were given. We did this around the days of December 29-30th.

PART 3

 



         I think our act of kindess went well. I wouldn't say it was perfectly done, no mistakes, because we did have a few bumps in our road. We couldn't shovel the whole neighbourhood (two sidewalks) because it was a very cold day, also, we had planned to give the mugs and etc. to the elderly home near Cookatoos, but when we called, we still had a problem since it had to go through more security measures, and etc. Another problem was that we couldn't create enough candy canes shaped as a heart and re-writing every single thing over and over again, and we didn't have a printer available.

         With my mindset before, I thought the whole plan over and the overall process and activity was unexpected. When we shovelled the sidewalk, I thought that it would be easy, but it was very difficult with the weather and everything else. By accident, we shovelled our neighbours walk, but since we started, we can't just stop and we kept going. The snow was about or above our knees and it wasn't easy, finally, something unbelieveable happened. The neighbour opened their door and came and wanted to talk to us. They said how much time we saved for them and they wanted to thank us. This happened with two of our neighbours! We rejected, but they insist we kept the money. After thinking, we thought we should donate the money! We gave a letter to our neighbours and said how we gave the money received to charity so that they know where their money is going. With the mugs and cups, it was very difficult. We had to think of a design, draw it with a sharpie, and layer the sharpie 2-3 times so it had layers of sharpie. After that, we baked them to insure that the permanent marker would stay put. It was a very difficult process since we were just experimenting and we were scared that the mugs might shatter inside the oven which could be a very dangerous procedure to clean.

        I felt like I've changed. I felt that this project was going to be very hard and was going to take plenty of days, but it only took 2. It wasn't the most simpliest project, but it was very productive. We tried everything and we improvised for the best. I felt so appreciated when we shovelled and talked to the neighbours. They had thanked us and we can tell by their big grins that we made their day and made them happy. All the cold air went away when talking to them, until it came back again. :)  I felt different, like I'm not myself anymore, since I haven't shovelled for others. But I have to say, we had an urge to stretch at that point.

        The neighbours reacted with great smiles and amazed eyes. They were freezing but they had to talk to us even if their door was half open and it's freezing outside. We did the rest of the activities being anonymous. We felt that they might not be there, or we didn't need to name names to receive credit. The main objective is to pay it forward.

         We asked the neighbours that we shovelled sidewalks for to pay it forward, and one of them said that they loved that movie. That person had a job for inspiring people and being a difference maker. We also wrote very tiny notes to indicate to pay it forward and a brief summary of what pay it forward was for the candy canes.

PART 4 

 

         The idea of Pay it Forward is very critical for creating a kinder society. This spreads out just like a viral video. This helps brighten anyone's day, it's not very hard at all (you could do the simplest things such as open the door), and the best part, it goes on and on and on.

 

         

          Hopefully, our act of kindness has touched one heart and has spread around. Our act of kindness  has made a difference to their persepective on the world and how there are very supportive people in the world.

What is Pay It Forward?

         Pay It Forward is a respond to a person's kindness to oneself by being kind to someone else. Pay IT Forward is a movie based on a kid name Trevor who made a big differences from the world, he change the world from a little kindness. He's teacher name Mr.Simon gave the class an assignment to the class to brainstorm about how to Pay It Forward. Trevor decided to help 3 people who need help and inspired another 3 to pay back. By people doing that it will grow

My Pay It Forward act of kindness is I babysit my cousins, made "Thank You Cards" for my friends and the one who helped me, and I went to volunteer to Winnipeg Harvest 2 times.

Why did you choose this activity?

1. I babysit my cousins because there parents had work and they can't find anyone to take care of them. I also like talking care of little kids so it wasn't that hard to do.

2. I made "Thank You Cards" for my friends because I wanted to tell then how much they helped me with everything, without there help i wouldn't be the girl who I am right now.

3.I went to WinnipegHarvest 2 times because my Cousin asked me if I wanted to volunteer with her. I went there 2 times because it was really fun sorting the food to homeless people. 

Who did you help?

I helped out my Aunty, my Uncle, and WinnipegHarvest.

When did you do your act of kindness?

In December 27th 2013 i volunteer for the first time in WinnipegHarvest, the second time is in December 30th 2013. I babysit my cousins in December 22 to 27th. I made the "Thank You " cards in January 3rd, 2013.

Part III 

How did your act of kindness go?

My act of kindness went really well. The other people in WinnipegHarvest told me that i was really helpful and really funny. When i babysit my cousin my auntie and uncle were happy that i babysit them because haha i got to admit my cousins likes to play with me. When i gave my "Thank You" card to my friends, they thanked me, gave me hugs, some people acted serious, and some people were shocked. 

What happened?

I gave my friends the "Thank You" cards and they read it.When I was babysitting my cousins we were playing tag and playing in the ps4, I also had to feed them food when they were hungry. When I was volunteering in WinnipegHarvest me,my sister,and my cousin sort foods to into the categories and we helped to carry and take out the breads that are already expired. 

How did you feel?

To be honest i felt embarrassed about giving the "Thank You"cards to my friend, also when i volunteer. I was embarrassed when i gave my friends the "Thank You" cards because i thought they wouldn't like it, plus i wrote cheesy stuff. I felt embarrassed when i was first volunteering because haha I was clumsy and I didn't know what to do but as time passes I knew what to do. 

How did people/ person react?

When I handed out the "Thank You" cards to my friends they were surprise, shocked, and they were thankful. When I babysit my cousins my aunty and uncle were thankful and my cousins were excited to play with me.

Did you ask the person/people to involved to "Pay It Forward"? How did the person/react to this? If you did not ask the person/people to "Pay It Forward",how come?

I didn't asked them because when I was volunteering people were busy, I forgot to tell my aunty and uncle to Pay It forward, and I also forgot to put "Pay It Forward" in the "Thank You" cards.

I PART 1:

Paying it Forward is doing a simple act of kindness without asking that person for anything in return other than paying it forward to another person. Pay it forward was an idea that started off as a school project but instead turned into something even better than they had anticipated. Pay it forward is a simple idea of giving back to the people that had helped you in the past. Pay it forward is as simple as donating canned goods to your nearby food drives that would then go to the less fortunate or if you don't have canned goods to donate, you can shovel your neighbour's driveway for them. The idea of pay it forward is basically giving back to your community and to the people that had helped you in the past and also because there is no greater feeling than knowing that you have tried to make a difference. Doing a simple act of kindness such as volunteering at a soup kitchen can come a long way in making a difference in someone's life.

PART 2: 

For my pay it forward act of kindness, I voluntarily shovelled my neighbour's walk. My neighbour is an elderly woman and so I figured that it would the right thing to shovel it myself for her. I had already volunteer to shovel my parent's driveway and front yard and so I figured that it would be a nice thing to shovel my neighbour's walk. I chose to do this activity because I thought that it would be a  nice thing to do since it was the holiday season and the holidays is about giving back. I shovelled my neighbour's walk after every heavy snowfalls during the holidays and over the break.

PART 3:

I think that my act of kindness went well and I felt really good about doing it afterwards. I think that if you were to ask every grade eight student about how they felt after  doing their act of kindness, I think that they would say that they felt great and so did I. I do not really know how my elderly neighbour reacted to my act of kindness but my parents saw me do it and said that it was very  thoughtful. I also did not get to ask her to pay it forward, however, I did leave a Merry Christmas card and wrote pay it forward and left it in her mailbox. 

PART 4: 

I think the idea of pay it forward is important because it teaches others that not everyone that does a good deed needs something in return. I think it's important because it teaches us important lessons that we could use in the future.

PART I

What is Pay it Forward?

               Pay it Forward is having to do some sort of Act of Kindness for a person or a group of people. It's simple, it doesn't have to be extraordinary or courageous but something that would either help or make someone's day. There are many people who are physically and mentally hurt and Pay it Forward is a great opportunity for people like you and me to help them in a way that's possible. In the movie, Pay it Forward, a boy named, Trevor, was inspired to help three people he had thought needed help or felt like their life had problems. By doing so, his actions would inspire those three people to pay it forward for another group of three people. That's the whole beauty of this idea. Throughout the whole process of making someone's day, we come to the point where more and more people are becoming engaged. 

PART II

What was your Pay it Forward act of kindness?

                 Our group's Pay it Forward act of kindness were four actions; shovelling (money donated to the Philippine Typhoon Relief), designing kitchenware items for our neighbours,  giving out treats for teachers, dropping candy canes with small messages in people's mail boxes, and a box full of candy canes with a letter for a daycare.

Why did we choose this activity?

                 We chose these activities because it was something we were all capable of doing. Throughout the whole process of managing each act of kindness, we learned that the most important part isn't whether how many people we've helped but the most important part was seeing people understand what you're doing and inspiring each individual to make a difference. That's what makes it even better. It's nice to make someone cheer up but how do you know if they learned anything from what you've done? We had also chosen these activities because it was very fair for each person in the group. Watching someone do most of the work while the rest do less lacks the magic of teamwork. This project not only helped us to stretch but to experience more on working as one and what we needed to go through to make a big difference. 

Who did you help? (How did the person or people react?)

                 We had mostly helped people around our community. The most inspiring moment we've gone through during the time we spent on the project was shovelling. Shovelling the sidewalk was probably something we would never forget. At the beginning, we didn't expect to get any money or even anything out of it. We weren't doing this to get money but to help the people and at least save some time for them. Since it was winter break, we had plenty of time to practically do anything we wanted but might as well use most of our time to shovel people's sidewalk. While shovelling one of our neighbour's sidewalk, we unexpectedly saw the lady opening her door with a $20 bill in her hand. We were so thankful but we couldn't accept it. We didn't really need any money since seeing her smile isn't worth any amount of money. We had told her about our project and how we were inspired by the actual movie, Pay it Forward, and we were surprised to hear that she also helps people to move forward. She told us that we could use the money for coffee or food but instead, we told her we would donate it to the Philippine Typhoon Relief. We were so thankful and we couldn't hold the excitement in. After that, we went to the next house. Another lady had opened her door with another $20 bill in her hand! At this point, we felt like tearing up. It was so inspiring and it made us feel like difference makers. She was very surprised about what we did and again, we told her about our project and how the money is used for something good. We felt really honoured for what they've done so we gave them a letter to tell them how thankful we were including the designed kitchenware items.  They will always inspire us to be better people and if little kids shovel our sidewalks in 20 years, we'll do the same thing.

PART III

How did your act of kindness go?

                     Our act of kindness had gone differently then we thought but we were still able to stay on the road. Throughout the whole winter break, we had the tendency of changing and tweaking most of the activities. Each action wasn't very easy. Making a difference is harder than it looks but while we wrote letters, designed, wrapped food, and shovelled the snow, we would forget how cold it was outside or how long we've worked for because of the people we've inspired. It removes all the hard work because something great came out of it. Doing these activities makes you want to do more good things.

What happened?      

                    When we shovelled, we planned to have 2 people shovel while the other 2 people captured each moment through videos and pictures. We all took turns to make it fair for each person. There was a time where no one wanted to take videos or pictures and we all wanted to do was shovel. It was more like a fun time and we promised each other that we would do this again before winter ends. After shovelling, we earned $40. The most difficult part was the weather. As long as you had 3 pairs of gloves then you'll be alright. 

                    When we designed the kitchenware items, we used sharpies to create designs on the items. To make the designs from rubbing off, we needed to heat them in the oven. What made this so difficult was to heat it more than once. To heat a batch of items, it took more than 30 minutes. We wanted to design these items because it was something we haven't seen too many people have done. We thought of using kitchenware items because that's what a lot of people would use. Overall, it was a great experience to do something new.

                   The time we had making teachers a letter and wrapping their gift was very fun. It was hard figuring out what each teacher would want or didn't want. Some of the gifts included Hersheys, Reeses, Candy Canes, Nature Valley Bars, and a letter. We were practically walking everywhere in Walmart trying to find the things we needed and we had almost lost each other while we were there! This action was just our way of showing the teachers how special they are to be doing what they do.
                   The idea of giving a gift for a daycare was something we felt was important. If you think about it, some people forget the importance of a daycare. The workers who help and watch the kids are people who take the time to do a simple thing yet a big help. In the letter we had given them, we wrote a little bit about how Pay it Forward works and about the movie. We put a good amount of information for them to fully understand why we're doing this and of course, we told them to pay it forward as well. 

                   Last but not the least was to create a card with candy canes shaped as hearts with a message. We had taped two small candy canes into one heart on the cover and when you open the card, it briefly talks about what Pay it Forward is for and if they have any further questions, they could easily call our school. Some of the messages we had put on the card were, 'Have a Great Day!', 'You are Amazing!' and etc. The hardest part of finishing this activity was giving them out. On the day we gave each card to everyone's mailbox, it was one of the coldest days we had gone out. We were glad that we hadn't shovelled on that day. The first 5 minutes of being outside, your ears and fingers were already frozen. Then again, we knew that all the hard work would be worth it.

How did you feel?

                         After the whole experience, I felt really influenced to do more activities that will for sure make a difference. Personally, this is just the start and even if we work separately in the future, this whole project taught us how to stretch and become independent with actions I thought I couldn't have done. At the end, we gained confidence from one another. That's really important when it comes to stretching because there will be times where you feel hesitant on whether you should help or not but it is never about the journey but the destination.

How did the person or people react?

                      The people had reacted with big smiles. The two ladies that saw us shovelling their sidewalk were very shocked. Honestly, even if we saw people shovelling our sidewalk, we'd all feel this warm feeling in our hearts. After a hard day at work and coming home seeing these group of kids giving time to do something they didn't need to do takes stress off your shoulders. 

Did you ask the person or people to pay it forward?

                       Yes, we did ask the person or people to pay it forward. At first, we were a bit shy since it's our first time doing this project but after awhile, you gain that confidence after talking to all these people. 

PART IV

Why is the idea of Pay it Forward so important?

                       The idea of Pay it Forward is important because we all learn something from it. I think that's what makes us better because if we experience something and we don't fully understand what you've done wrong, how will you ever prevent that mistake from happening again? In this case, we learned how to be more selfless, hopeful, and positive. At the end, the most important thing that matters is the love you've given. It could be family love, friendly love, true love, or etc. You will always be judged on how you treat people. We gain affection and care from this idea. Imagine a world full of people who cared each person, a world with no war, or no madness. Now, imagine a world full of people who hated one another and wore anger for every single day of their lives. It's a simple choice that leads to a big difference. Pay it Forward is the act of kindness that spreads and multiplies. The more people we help and are helped, the more we'll gain experience and pride.  

Has your act of kindness made a difference?

                       I think our act of kindness has made a difference. It may be a small difference but later on in our lives, those differences become bigger and brighter. Our act of kindness not only made a difference for the people we had helped but also for each of our lives. This will be something we could all get used to.
